Argh! It’s green! Okay, now that we’re past that, let’s talk about why it’s green. I have to say at the outset that the smoothie is my favorite and absolutely delicious. It tastes better than a peanut butter, banana, strawberry sandwich. Why better; because the smoothie has almond butter in it. Yum!
Q: Why is it green?
A: It has super “greens” powder in it.
Q: What is greens powder?
A: (From Dr. Frank Lipman’s book, “Spent”) Experts say that Americans still don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. Vitamin supplements can’t make up for the nutritional value of the variety of fruits, vegetables, and grasses available. According to Dr. Lipman, greens powders come closest to providing our bodies with these nutrients. You should still eat your fruits and veggies, but the greens powder helps with a power packed punch. Greens powder contains the extracts of the pigments, where the nutrients are most highly concentrated. So, you don’t have to try to blend the kale into your smoothie and make the consistency palatable.
Q: Why a smoothie for breakfast?
A: Rather than asking your body to work hard digesting kale or broccoli, your body is able to absorb the nutrients more easily. Now your body can focus on other processes, conserving some energy.
Q: Can I get the ingredients easily?
A: Yes, you can. I found whey powder at both Byerly’s (a fancy dancy grocery store) and Trader Joe’s. If you don’t have the time to got to a store other than in your routine, you can order it online. Same goes for the greens powder.
Q: How do I make this delicious and nutritious breakfast?
A: Check out the recipe!
